Just thought I’d let you all know. I recieved an email from them this morning. Halpern Titanium‘s Mule Team Scales are back! The sale page is already online, but no sales will be possible until this upcoming Monday the 7th.

I swear I’m not a shill lol. I just happen to love the Merlot Micarta and will be buying a set.

I have 5 pairs of Halpern scales; bought 4 of them direct from Halpern; 3 recently from available NOS.

Glad to hear they are going to resume production of these scales.

Just received an email from them saying their new website was going "live" next week as noted above.

They make the black scales sold by Spyderco on their website where I bought a pair and IMO they are the BEST source for Mule scales bar none.

Got some sets ordered! Between the micarta scales and custom sheaths, I knew I could get over $200 invested in each mule...

I'm cheap.

I figured that I only "needed" one leather (which I don't use) and one Bolatron sheath (which I do use), regardless of how many Mules that I owned. Then again, I'm too lazy to swap out a single pair of scales to save $, so I bought a pair for each of the Mules that I own and plan to keep.

I have over $300 in those alone but I do like the variety of colors, which helps me identify which is which.

LOL! ;)

I ended up getting the Rosewood scales. They look beautiful in the picture. I got the OD Green G-10 that I actually wanted too. The extra scales may lead to an extra mule at some point.

Anyone have any experience with the contoured vs flat scales as far as ergos? Wondering how much of a difference there is for the 2.

I've never purchased flat scales for my Mules but I think the difference would be obvious in your hand by just holding a Mule w/o any scales or it or w/some paracord tied around it. I personally do not like the feel of the knife like this.

The contoured handles fit nicely and comfortably in my hand and, given the choice, I'd never consider buying anything else for them, even though the flat scales are cheaper.

Something to also consider is that the Spyderco Mule Bolatron sheath is specifically designed to fit a contoured scale.

I cannot insert and fully seat a Mule w/o any scales on it into the Spyderco sheath and the result would probably be the same w/flat scales on. So, if you buy flat scales for your Mule, you'll probably have to use Spyderco's (or another) leather sheath to carry it instead.

There are sellers on EB and elsewhere who make flat scales for the Mule and corresponding kydex sheaths to use them with.

So, you could buy flat scales from Halpern and Mule sheaths designed for flat scales from these other vendors which "should fit" provided the Halpern scales are the same thickness as the scales made by these other vendors.

None of this mattters, if you buy the Halpern contoured scales to use w/the Spyderco Bolatron and/or leather sheath.

My first Spyderco Mules. Went with Deep Blue Sea Micarta and OD Green. Added some titanium screws that I heat colored with a butane torch. I can't wait to start using these!

I appreciate your response here. I just snagged a cruwear mule at the factory second sale and picked up the flat gray g10 halpern scales. I'll be probably having someone I know make me a kydex sheath so that shouldn't be a problem.

Currently have a paracord wrap which is decently comfortable so hoping the flat g10 will be similar in feel

I've bought 11 Mules so far with 2 of them being used regularly! The flat scales work fantastic (much better then Paracord wrap) and are what I use for appendix carry! I had Christina@ Sheath pro (same company that makes Standard Boltaron Sheath for Spyderco knives) custom make a sheath for the flat scale option. She also didn't need me to send my knife to her!

The 3D Halpern offerings are better for extended use, But the flat scales are comfortable too. My hands are XL-XXL.

Where did you order that sheath from ? I have two mules that I need to get scales and sheaths for. Thanks in advance.
It is a Charlie Cline sheath made for a Bradford Guardian 3.5. The specs worked, I wet formed it to the mule. Was approx 40 dollars.
