Here is the ARRL site: http://www.arrl.org/hamradio.html if anyone wants to learn about amatuer radio. Much more range than CB radio or cell phone for taking into back country. Hams have been making free phone calls over their radio long before cell phones were ever thought of.

FB Indeed. My trusty steed. QRZ, eh? Been reading my mail! My youngest boy is headed your way after a week-end in Paris. Not the best time for it, but he wouldn't be dissuaded. 73's fr. Georgia, USA - Lee

You folks gotta get the cookie crumbs cleaned outta your keyboards! They're throwing random characters. ;) :D :D

Radio shack has thier 10meter rig, the HTX-10, on sale for $69.00. I got one today but will be awhile before I get it installed in the Jeep.

I have also been thinking of installing it and some other stuff in a locking hardside briefcase that could be grabed and set up on the spot.

I got my Tech-plus several years ago and have studied for the general many times but never bothered to take the test. Maybe now I will. I have always been more into the Emergency and preparedness of it than the side of talking on it.

I don't have any time for clubs or the room for another 'membership' in the budget. I wish I did, but I already pay too much in other memberships.

If it comes time to use Ham for the sole purpose of como I don't think the ARES/ Races will turn down volunteers at that time. But then again if it gets to that point I'll be pretty busy myself.

On the other hand I tuned up the RXr today and noticed a QRZ Cq contest on all bands. If you have the ability you can tune in and hear stations from all over the country.

At least around here, there is no MONITARY cost for ARES/RACES membership - the cost is in TIME, for training and working activities. We REALLY prefer to use only trained folks if we can help it
