Can anyone summarise the article in the new blade issue by Wayne Goddard about hammer finish problems?

He says that hammer finishes create stress risers that are a source for potential cracks during the quenching process. He also said that some makers use a hammer finish to try and make a knife look old or like it was forged long ago, but that even old knives generally don't have a hammered finish. Therefore, he doesn't think that a hammer finish should be used.

That's the message that I got out of his article.
