Pictures of a sword I am working on, going to be hammer finish center, with 1/2 of the surrounding edge bevel polished. Weighs in at 2 pounds, tapers from 1/4 at the base to 3/16ths at the tip. Rough measurements are 2 inches wide at the base, 34 inches overall. Feels pretty good so far, gotta go back and finish forge everything, crisp up the bevels and even out the edge thickness, fix a slight corkscrew at the tip. It's a hexagonal cross section now, and I am debating wether to take it down to a full diamond or not. The geometry feels pretty good so far, after the finish forging and grinding it should be acute enough to be an effective cutter. Elongated oval guard 3/8ths thick, elongated oval pommel to match, with red paper or linen micarta handle all peened over nice and tight, or something to that design.

Before the bevels forged in, the tapered blank

Don't just about anything pertaining to the knife making shop have blood on it? I know I've bled on just about everything in my shop once :)

Looks great Sam, going to finish this one or put in the pile with the rest? ;)

looks better than mysword project so far
will you have it finished for Ashokan?

Really nice looking!! Are you going to keep the hammer marks in or grind them out? I prefer the forged look myself.

Can't wait to see the next steps-

Thanks alot guys I really appreciate it! Robert, thankfully it isn't blood, though there is enough of that on some other blades and tools hehe (paint from when I painted my table). Now with funds bolstered by my new J O B, I'll have the heat treat oven in no time hopefully, along with a couple gallons of the AAA and Parks#50, I'll actually be able to get some of the MASSIVE pile a bit closer to being finished, of which this one will probably be bumped ahead to be the first finished though.

Page, this one WILL be finished for Ashokan, I promise:D, a few others as well. Deloid, yes it will be hammer finished in the center, and 1/2 of the edge bevel will be polished, so it will be a two tone. I'll have some more pictures up in a few Chuck, I got a set of your tongs done too, the others will be done this weekend hopefully.

I have two small peices of GORGEOUS mosaic bar end cuts I got from Shawn Knowles I would like to incorporate into this blade also, maybe set into the handle. More pics in a few.

No bug hurry on the tongs Sam. As long as you don't forget about me. The Mosaics sound interesting. Looking forward to the pics.

I won't forget :) ! Just to let you know too Chuck, I got that block milled and surface ground on the ends, ready for heat treat:D. My buddy (who helped me and milled the surfaces, then showed me how to use the surface grinder) has a top loading circular gas furnace, think it's a Johnson we are going to fire up for it.

Here is some more pictures:

Check the taper, I assure you the sword was held level with the lens, so it is not an optical illusion as if the tip was held far away, base of the blade is 1/4 thick, tapering to a hair under 3/16ths

Very Cool (pun intended). I would like to see that thing get quenched. Need take some pics of that too. Noting like 60 lb chunk of steel flaming up in oil:D:D:D. take it easy:thumbup::thumbup:

Yeah it is going to be a fun night, and I say night even though I will start in the morning, it will probably take all day to heat it up:D. Scaring up a 55 gallon drum of oil too is going to be tricky, local auto place should have one of some used oil, or the pizza place my bro works at can probably help.

An update!

Got it all ground today, it is now ready for heat treat, here is a few shots to tide you over, I have more but the camera is being a pain in the tookus.

As I said before, the outer edge bevel is polished, with the ridgelines you see in the middle all forged in by hammer.
