Hammer making class.......

My friend Sam Salvati came up and did a GREAT hammer making class at the Guilford Art Center here in Guilford Connecticut this past weekend.
What a class....Sam is just full of great info and blacksmithing lore...and he worked his butt off.:thumbup: So here are some pics of the weekend....I hope you enjoy them.:D

Wow, Sam looks almost respectable! :)

He's definitely a guy who knows his stuff on making hammers. With any luck we'll see some more for sale soon. ;)

Now the work really starts! Holes need to be punched and drifted in this 1 1/2" round 1045(from the NJ steel Baron...of course)

I'm curious Mace or Sam... are the drifts made out of 1045 as well or are they made out of mild steel. Also it looks like the drifts are made from 1" stock. Is that correct?
 
I had an amazing time, big thanks to Mace and the Guilford art center for bringing me up there to teach. It was blast!!! The kids learned alot and so did the adults, myself included. I would do another in a heartbeat.

Eric, the slit/drifts were made from 6150, a chisel steel. in 1" yes.
