hammer questions

That looks like a nice hammer. Well the reasoning that I can figure is it actually helps keep the hammer driving in the correct direction. If you have never struck with one you will be in for a sweet surprise. When I first saw one of these hammers I was thinking "Who would have ever come up with something like this"? It can't be very effective. Well I made a couple and they are my favorite hammers now. I have over a dozen hammers of varying shape and size. I use the Japanese style hammer much more frequently than any of the others. If I ever need to make another hammer it will probably be one of these again.
 
so do they strike with more power or more accuracy for a given weight? or do they give you both?
