Carl Rechsteiner is THE man you should talk to. You can reach him in the Georgia knifemaker guild section on the Knife Network . I believe the next one is in September. It is held at the www.trackrock.com . Nice place that basically just opens there arms to the makers. Great family ran place.
Hey guys, when the fall Trackrock hammer in is getting close, please start a thread about it so we'll know when it's gonna be, ok?
Man I wanna make it to one of those get togethers!!!!!!
i cant wait. does everyone camp out for a while, is it kid friendly--well not around the hammering, but in general. do you have to reserve a camp spot way in advance? thanks
Trackrock... beautiful setting in the North Georgia mountains.. campground with RV and tent sites and a few 1 & 2 bedroom cabins. Check out the link to Trackrock as posted above by Mark Williams. It has all the info you will need regarding the campground. Some folks camp, others RV or pull in a popup camper, some take a cabin and some find a motel close by - Blairsville or Young Harris. This campground is now frequented by 3rd generation campers!
The primary source of info on the TrackRock Hammerin can be found in the Georgia Knifemaker's Guild forum here - www.knifenetwork.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=59 Just cut and this into the URL Address bar. When the page opens, drop down to the display options section and select to show threads 'from the last year'. That will allow you to see several threads on at least two hammerins. Hammerins are held fall and spring. Most of the threads about the hammerin will have some photos.
What can you expect? A great time at a great spot in a building with 6 +/- forges glowing, hammer and anvils ringing from 8am till the owls hoot or later. On Saturday there may be 30 - 40 people in the building at the same time! It will be early fall in the mountains.. may be overcast and drizzly or bright and sunny! Plan accordingly. There is a playground for the kids, a lake for fishing and stables for horseback riding. So, mom and the kids can entertain themselves while we play.
Marekz and ALL
Sorry, haven't been on BF in awhile. Too many irons in the fire for real. I wish there was some way to make it possible to get Brother Mark to come down for Trackrock. He's the primary instigator and reason for Trackrock Hammer-ins getting started in the first place. I'm just the fire tender.
If you plan to attend, please read the announcement referred to over on the Guild's forum carefully. We have a great time and all are welcome, especially kids and family. Our Saturday lunch is worth the trip, but I really need to be able to give the cook a solid head count early.
L6, you always threaten but never show. Make the trip man! Get it over with.
It's not like going to your oncologist for TV work.
Marekz, you have a crazyman living right down the road from you. He forges everyonce in awhile. I call him Little Brother, but most everyone else calls him John Costa. You can make contact with him through the Guild website www.georgiaknifemakersguild.com
