k I'm working a piece of .5" O1 drill rod. It's drawing out in length but am hopping to get a little more width out of it. I'm using a 2brick forge so heating is kinda limited

any pointers would be great

Thanks
Chris

How are you drawing it out? What type of anvil to you have?

If it's a traditional anvil with a horn, you can place the bar on top of the horn running length ways (parallel to the horn) and hammer it. This will use the curve of the horn to push the steel towards the sides. Then you just flatten in out again. Of, if you don't have a horn, you can use a cross pein or vertical pein hammer, again hammering the length of the pein parallel to the length of the steel.

That's my ideas. Take this from a forging noob who just forged his first blade (I've been a stock-removal maker up to this point).

i had a feeling that was going to be the answer. I'm using a 5.5"x8" 50 lb piece of cast iron. and if i miss the work piece, my "anvil" shows it. I used a ball peen and got some decent results but it want more widening than overal spreading. I guess I'll just have to use a little more care and time and try striking it length ways. Thanks for the insight
