Hammers, for bladesmiths

Carl, that pile got bigger then that hehe. 44 total, or thereabouts is the first batch.

JMJ Deker is correct, they looked familiar but I couldn't put my thumb on it til I saw pure nickel sticking out from a sea of rust LOL.

Rick, I LOVE it too and that little fella looks just like how I feel.

Salem, it's not dumbfounding to me all I see is POTENTIAL, what I could do with that part or this part :D

Me at a good scrapyard...

The hammer making video was great!

I used to scrap metal with a friend of mine, my buddy even owned a small smelter. You can find some cool stuff at the scrapyard but I never saw any damascus, nice! I remember scrapping tons of tool steel drilling rod... I need to go look for some blocks of steel for a makeshift anvil.

Scrapyard tip - never let them unload your truck with the big magnet! My buddy did that and the back half of his truck got ripped off... true story.

Here is what we did with the A-2. As far as heat treating, all you have to do is get all 400 lbs up to 1750 degrees for about 45 minutes, then turn off the gas, wait a week for it to cool. Then temper to around 1,100 for a Rockwell 53-55 Anvil. Piece of cake!

Thread is too old. Many photos gone. Let's not resurrect an old thread. If you have new questions, post a new thread.
