Hammock Advice From the Beckerheads?

I use a Warbonnet Blackbird double-layer 1.7oz. I've swapped out the entire stock suspension in favor of Dutchgear: Tree straps with Dutch clips and dutch buckles, 6' amsteel whoopie slings to whoopie hooks. My tarp suspension is Dutchgear as well, 35' of Zing-It with a Dutch hook on one end and a Dutch Stinger'z carabiner on the other. Besides making some really neat titanium hammock gear, Dutch is a really nice guy, I got to meet him at one of the HammockForum winter hangs.

Here is my Blackbird and my son's Hennessy Scout:

Hah, the "bunk" system is my compromise to my wife's worrying. She would rather see him in a tent with me, as she is convinced that someone is going to hike an hour out into the middle of nowhere at night, stumble right across my campsite and decide to snatch my 7 year old out of his hammock without being seen or heard by me. So with him right above me where I can reach out and touch him, she's more comfortable, and as they say, a happy wife is a happy husband.

In this case, it was pretty easy for him to get in as his Hennessy opens from the bottom and I gave him a boost up into it. With a bottom opening hammock I think an adult could pull it off as well, you just stand inside the opening and boost up with your arms.

That is pretty ingenious! I will admit it, that is pretty awesome. I thought yours was the top bunk so I was a bit curious!

My ENO doublenest is on the vehicle for delivery today!! Soon as it gets here im going to hang it up right in my living room.

Sweet! Did you mount eyebolts to the walls?

Pictures!

Jeremy

I got the ENO indoor wall mounting kit a few days ago and already got it mounted, The hammock hang calculator was a big help figuring out how high to mount the anchors.

Eyebolts would of been cheaper and worked just as well im sure. But the hanging kit was only 12 bucks, came with spring links/carabiners, and i dont have to worry about which eyebolts are rated for how much weight.. I know these were made specifically for hanging hammocks to support people... So just easier and more piece of mind for me really. Even though im only 150 pounds LMAO I didn't want to have to worry about the weight if my kids climbed in with me and stuff.

Very comfortable and plenty of room!!! Laying diagonally im pretty much perfectly flat. But i prefer to lay almost straight in it, i like how it curves. It reminds me of being reclined in my zero gravity chair, which is super comfy. Now i just need to rearrange the couches so i can see the entire TV. Or i could just raise the hammock a little bit I guess.

And i covered my feet just for James HAHAHA

Yea that would work too :D But id need a taller entertainment stand then LOL

Or do it the redneck way and put a couple of cinder blocks on the entertainment stand under the TV. Lots cheaper than a new stand. You can probably snitch a couple from someone.

It is WAY easier just sliding the couch over a little bit LOL Entertainment stand has a glass top too... So its likely the TV would fall and end up on the floor, and then i couldnt see it at all LMAO

I dont watch that TV much. Occasionally when me and the wife watch a movie ill sit on the couch with her. But lately we both been watching most movies together on my computer, and i watch all my shows online. The kids use that TV mostly. Im pretty sure that was Curious George playing when i took that picture. :D My computer desk is just left of me in that shot and I can see it perfectly from the hammock!! I even have a small handheld keyboard/mouse combo that i can use while hanging LOL

I dont sleep much regardless, but i told the kids they could sleep in bed with momma tonight, So if i do feel like a nap later ill try sleeping in the hammock tonight. Probably hang it back up here in a few and watch a couple shows while swinging and drinking a beer. I really like how easy it is to put up and take back down. Wrapping the straps back up is the longest part and even thats super easy and only takes a minute.

Anyways I Like IT :D

Might be interesting to find out if you can actually sleep more/better in the hammock than on a flat bed.

That would be nice :D

We shall see!!!

I have never heard of these indoor hooks... I might have to look into them.

I use the ENO indoor hanging kit.. Cost like 12 bucks and is easy to setup. Just drill a hole in the middle of a stud and then screw the anchor bolt in.

Im glad i grabbed them, because i dont have a "yard" and otherwise i might have hung it up on the front porch.... And here, its likely id wake up with a homeless guy in the hammock with me saying "aint this the shelta?" Followed by "you got a cigarette?" LMAO

It was comfortable, but i didnt sleep any more than normal i guess. I was in the hammock from around 0430 until right before 0700, but didnt fall asleep until somewhere in between. But then i woke up with a crazy cramp in my leg. I guess i must have positioned my legs crazy or something. Stretched it out and the day begins.

I still like it :D

Depends on the person, I suppose. I've only spent a few nights in a hammock and frankly I was still glad to get back to my real bed. But it's wayyyy better than sleeping on the ground, that's a stone-cold fact. I'm old and creaky enough that crawling out of a tent, no matter how nice an air mattress or pads I have, takes me about 30 minutes and hurts like the devil.

Spending the first couple hours of the day in pain takes a lot of the fun out of camping. Especially since that's usually the busiest part of the day in terms of chores that have to be done. I noticed immediately that I just don't have that problem when I spend the night dangling between trees :)

Well I can say %100 that I do sleep better in a Hammock. I have on and off back pain that gets really bad a few time a year. Been like that for at least 15 years now.

I have always had trouble sleeping in beds. Back in college I even went to just a piece of foam egg crate on the floor for a few years since I woke up feeling better than I did in a bed.

Anyway, I have an ENO pro nest that I've had for about 2 years. Never really slept in it till I went to Ethan's. Before that I just used it to rest in while hiking and sometimes to nap on my porch.
When I got back after 3 nights in it, I decided to try it out in my house. I slept in it for about a week and felt great. So great that I got an ENO DN and have been using that for the last two weeks.

I have slept 23 nights in a row in a hammock and the only two nights that I experienced any back trouble was when I was experimenting with fixed ridge lines. Didn't like it to sleep. The calculations online just didn't work for me.

I think ENO's are great for the money but from my research, a lot of guys like the Warbonnets, Clarks, ETC. I am happy with my ENO's at the moment and can't beat them for the price. It cost's about as much as a Becker. I would recommend getting the Double Nest for sure. I like my pro nest and will still use it for camping and stuff but the DN is what I now use every day.

Here is a pic of my son last week when I took him out to play in the woods.

And in the DN so we could chill and eat a snack.

I also picked him up a single nest and put in his room. Got rid of his bed and am going to see how this works for a while.

I used the ENO indoor hanging kit on mine and it works great. REI didn't have any in stock yesterday so I stopped off at the Hardware store and got some 3/8 eye bolts. They work great too and are only 98 cents each. A little more for the stainless.

I have converted my personal hammocks over to whoopie slings and tree straps. Such a huge difference.

Sweet setups Dex!!

I was also wondering when you would be here :D

!! Dex helped talk me through some of my hammock questions and provided me with some excellent info !!
