I had this knife at the BLADE Show and had Coop shoot it, first pro shot of my work.

Jim Cooper photo of my Bowie by James Cox, on Flickr

DHIII W2, forged by hand and spheroidally annealed and clay hardened with Satanite and Parks 50.

Fittings are mild steel, color case hardened in a crucible with charcoal. The guard was carved out by hand with files and sandpaper, and is heavily contoured on the handle side.

The handle is ivory paper micarta. It is a thru tang, and could have been done as a take-down, but I'd rather it be glued for hard use.

The finial nut is Ampco 45 bronze, made by hand (I don't have a lathe, mill, or surface grinder in my shop). It is carved to look like a dogwood blossom with a chainsaw file and 3 sided file.

I managed to get all of the hamon activity I wanted, and most of it doesn't show up well in the photo, and the other side has more delicate stuff as well.

Thanks for looking, I'm not online much, but I check my IG relatively often if you have any questions about any of the processes.

Well done, James! Very impressed with your bowie. Felt great in the hand, with a lot of subtleties going on for someone's early work.
Enjoyed meeting you at Don's table. I think there will be some slip joints in your future, too. Keep up the great work.

Thanks Joe! It was a pleasure meeting and chatting with you! I'm rather enjoying the slip joints, they're a blast.

Splendid all around.....ivory micarta is pretty stuff but I hate working it. Love the color case hardening - I'm going to have to get my bone/charcoal out and do a guard or two.
