Hamon

I bought a Knife awhile back in W1 with a killer hamon, but the knife has been used and dinged a bit. the hamon showed really well. I tried refinishing the blade and etched in ferric chloride and sanded to 1000grit. My problem is that the hamon is not poping out like it was. Did I sand to finely? Any help is appreciated.

Sand the blade, etch, and then rub it with very fine steel wool.

A weaker acid with a longer soak could produce a better contrast, but I'm not sure if it would help.

Or lemon juice.
