Hancock Hunter

I came back to this thread to just drool over that knife. And I believe it is THE most beautiful hunter I have ever seen!!

Thanks for the nice comments!
It is so obviously a Hancock Knife..he is Brilliant.

I love hunters. I love nice Damascus and I love Mammoth ivory. That has got to be the nicest combination of the three I've ever had the privilege to view.

The integration of everything that makes up this piece, the ivory, damascus, filework, proportions, etc. is truly remarkable. I don't think this could have been any better than it is.

You can say that again! I have to come back to this often, like others. Really has a lot going on, and all goes together so well. The bolster/guard is fantastic, IMO.

Tim has made several of this model. The first was for the AKI in 2003 and is pictured in David Darom's "Custom Fixed blade Knives".

True, except...

1. The piece in the book has that infernal Spanish notch, this one, joyously, is devoid of that feature.

2. The piece in the book has ladder pattern, this example features much more interesting and intricate pattern development of the damascus.

3. While not a devotee of any ivory, even I can see that the piece that Riad just got has some stellar fossil ivory, while that ivory piece featured in the book is exceptional, Riad's is better, nicer, more compelling color.

Good to compare and contrast.

Best Regards,

I need to get that Darom Book..
This was the pattern and in fact the Hunter that served as inspiration for my commision..I placed the order 3 years ago..and followed up with Tim intermittenly..He wrote a few months back apologising for the lengthy wait but would work on her after Reno..

When settling on the pattern I offered Tim 100% Carte Blanche ..he thumbed through his handle materials and chose first by what was large enough then what was nicest available
Next he suggested the 4th of July pattern damascus, one that he had developed over the year.He was anxious to use it and thought it would work well with this knife.
The Only requests I made were for basic pattern selection and budget..Tim welcomed the freedom and I trusted his sensibilities and tastes 100%

Thanks Again for the positive comments I'd be lying if I said that it wasn't gratifying to hear from such respected collectors and makers

BTW she is wickedly sharp with a mirror edge, also the way the pattern shimmers and plays wth the light is very much like fireworks expolding in the sky
