Hi all,
I am thinking about ordering a Glass Smooth Steel from Hand American and wanted to know if anyone had any experiences with this tool.

It looks, to me at least, to be a great addition to a knife sharpening arsenal.

Sorry. No experience with Hand American.
But they have an interesting site. I have a pair of Ron Hock smooth steels which incidentally fit perfectly in my Sharpmaker 204. They can be found at many woodworking sites for about $12 each. Good luck with your choice!

Barry,
Thanks for the tip on the Ron Hock steels.

Maybe someone from Spyderco will see your post and equip their next generation sharpening system with steel/burnisher rods.

Hey, it sounds like a good idea to me.

Barry H, I went to Ron Hock's web site but couldn't find any specific steels for steeling. Are they the steel slabs for the planes?

No problem littleknife.

*One note-
I don't know if you noticed that Ron's burnisher's are hardened to Rc64.
