I'm not sure what experience anyone else had had with this Online Retailer, but I wanted to let you know about a transaction I had, so that you can make your decision to buy from them, based on my order's outcome.
I placed an order with them because I have read good things about them on other forums & saw that their prices were reasonable. I could have gotten the stuff from other places as there are multiple vendors listing them.
I ordered a Smooth Steel from HandAmerican because of a method listed that used a cradle to steady the steel, a wooden cradle that was to be a free item included in the sale, it wasn't. I also ordered a Leather Strop. It took a very long time to receive the order, from October 17th 2006, to November 6th, 3 weeks. When I received the package I notified them that the wooden cradle was missing from the order that was supposed to be included free with the steel, & received a reply, from the owner of the company, Keith De'Grau, that he would ship it out immediately. I have yet to receive it.
I have sent emails, & left voicemails, but haven't received a response to either. I know it isn't much, but it reflects the vendor's honesty & willingness to honor a commitment. I have waited 4 months to say anything, as I wanted to give them a chance to make things right.....
I'm sure others have had pleasant transactions with this vendor, but my experience with them has been somewhat negative. The Steel & the Strop are made of excellent quality materials & the workmanship is excellent. This transaction's results may just be a fluke, but just in case I wanted BF members to be aware in advance. Caveat Emptor.....

I have several HandAmerican products and have known Keith as a professional acquaintance for nearly ten years. His products are indeed, excellent.

In my experience, Keith does not ignore his customers. It is my understanding however that he is engaged in majority, with work that is unrelated to the knife world. This doesn't excuse but it might help explain...

I did call him to make him aware of this thread and hopefully, he will contact you.

I had a similar experience, only worse.

I ordered his sharpening system with the different sandpapers and leather strops that attach to the station via spring loaded clips. When it arrived the leather strops were missing from the box. I called to ask about them and he told me that he was going to make a batch soon, and when they were ready he would send them out to me. Two weeks go by and nothing, so I call again. He tells me they are almost ready. Three MORE weeks go by and I call again. This time he actually has a little attitude with me, like I'm bugging him. He actually said to me, word for word, "what, you can't sharpen your knives without them"?

At that point I gave up hope, but they did eventually show up about a month after that.
