I made this hatchet for myself some time ago..The body is 1018 steel and I welded in a 1095 high carbon cutting bit..I slit and drifted the head by hand(which was not easy on this size steel, believe me:grumpy
..The cutting edge is about 2 3/4" wide and very sharp..
The handle is a standard hatchet handle that I modified slightly to fit..The eye is slightly square and not shaped like your standard hatchet eye..i had plans on making my own handle from maple but I never got around to it..
**Please Note** The handle has some space around the front of the eye where I took off a little too much wood when fitting it..I had intended to remove the handle when I made my own but i just kept using it and it never came loose so I left it in...A regular hatchet handle needs to be square off to fit..
It comes with a simple edge cover made from 8oz leather..I have so many hatchets I just dont need it and it sets unused..So im trying to sell off some of my less used tools at what I think are good prices..
Im asking $49 shipped priority with conformation conus for this hatchet..I think thats fair.even though its used Ill still cover the head under our usual warrenty..if something goes wrong with the head due to craftsmanship Ill buy it back...The paypal address is phllpwest@bellsouth.net
