This is hand forged Axe/Hawk. The body is 1045. The body was slit open with a hot cut and a wedge of L-6 was forge welded in for the cutting bit. The last picture was snapped before heat treat to show the L-6 standing out from the 1045. You can see the difference when the metal is heated or when its etched.
The cutting edge is 3 1/4" wide and the head is 6 1/2" long. Etched to a nice aged patina. The haft is hickory, lightly burned and stained. Finished with boiled linseed oil.
