I have forged a few dozen Yakut-style blades since the beginning of the year, but I finally decided to make a finished knife in this style.
Yakut knives are quite specific knives. They have a strange blade - one side is ground flat with a deep groove and the other side is ground convexly. The blades can be right- or left-handed, which is also unusual in the world of knives.
The handles of these tools are usually large. Straight and oval in cross-section, often giving the impression of completely messed-up proportions. However, due to the fact that these knives are made to work in extremely difficult conditions (freezing temperatures down to -70C), the shape and form of the handle are adapted to work in thick gloves. Its simple shape provides a comfortable grip.
You either love these knives or hate them... either you feel this climate or such a knife is simply ugly
For me, they are beautiful. Such a quintessence of a tool for work.
I forged my copy from 80CrV2 steel. The handle is from stabilized Karelian birch with a very rich pattern and birch bark inserts that I acquired myself.
Total length: 24,5 cm
Blade length: 11,5 cm
Here you can watch how its made:
Price for this knife is sold USD. Shipping and PayPal fees included.
I can make leather sheath for addictional 30 USD
Goods shipped from Poland worth less than 800$ are free from customs taxes
