I was thinking about making a knife, mostly by hand. Tools i have: angle grinder, bench grinder, dremel, files, various hack saws etc...NO band saw or belt grinder.

Can you guys point me in the right direction, liner metal...Nickle silver? titanium? and thickness..

Blade material? 440? 154cm? and thickness. I will have to send out for heat treat.

I will only use hand tools to cut, shape, profile, etc...I do have a couple of power tools that could / will be used, just no belt grinder...

I have been messing around with some kits and modifications and feel that I am ready to go just a bit further.
I would like to make at least one by hand before I invest a ton of $$$ on grinders, heat treaters etc...

Thanks in advance for any input anyone may have.

It appears you are planning to start with a folder. I would suggest making a fixed blade first.
There are several tutorials in the stickys designed for folks like you.

I updated! Thanks for your interest.

Here is some more to go on.
In my past I had jobs that included some amount of skill, creativity, and a keen eye for small detail.
I have since moved into a job that craftsmanship and attention to detail is non existent.
I have found myself needing to keep my hands busy, my creativity flowing and my eyes sharp for detail.

I have put together several auto kits, somewhat successfully. Have played with re-shape a couple kitchen knives and torn down and repaired several folders. As well as a few mods on productions knives.
Now I feel I like I want to play with some steel! Kind of want to see what I could come up with.
