Hand polished RAT-5

400 grits, too lazy to go up any more:D
Lazy nothing, I know how much work it is to get to that point! That looks like it would be a tricky blade to sand, as well.

When sanding, did you guys do it by hand with a sanding block? Orbital sander? Flap wheel? Please share your techniques.

Also, leemovie, which specific strippers did you use? I'd be willing to try some of the ones that you didn't try on my RAT 3 I just bought.

I like the looks of your Rat. I just got a Rat 3 this week and I sure favor a satin or brushed finish over the paint or whatever.

The RATs are difficult to strip. I actually sanded the coating off. No stripper worked on my RAT5. For RAK, it's a different story. Within 10min after applying stripper, the coating comes right off. I used BIX water soluable stripper. I didn't use power tool for sanding.

Leemovie, where did you get the handles? Knife kits? looks like G-10?Looks great hwatever it is.

Instead of stripping (which I guess doesn't work) or sanding, I'm scraping the coating off. I've been using a cabinet scraper and other metal objects in my shop to get most of it off. It's working well and isn't scratching the blade since the scraper is tempered much softer than the D2. I'll have to sand the last bits off to make it more uniform, but I like this technique because it doesn't create nearly as much dust as sanding.
