I`m new at this art. I was takeing the bead blast finish off the blade on my Benchmade Reflex 2000 ats-34, to put a mirror polish finish back on the blade.I used a heavy grit to take the bead blast off 220 or 320 anyway I used 400 to 600 to 800 to 1200 and then 1500 grit. I spent alot of hours rubing 1200 16hrs and 6 hrs. with 1500grit.Now my Question is There seems to be a gray like oxidation Film on the blade wich I cant seem to get rid of by rubbing with 600 to 1200. What is this GRAY Film and how do I get rid of it? I cant seem to get the blade to look like a mirror finish? What should I do now? and should I try for a Satin Finish? wich would be easyer for me By hand? Please any help on this would be apperciated feel free to Email me! Rich L.

Trying to polish a bead blasted blade sucks!!! I am in the middle of putting a satin finish on my Genesis 1 - never thouight it would be so much work or I might not have started

rich, you may find it easier to see how much sanding is neccesary by switching the sanding direction between grits. so they you can see the scratches from the previous grit easier, which will prevent undersanding, and keep you from wearing your self out through oversandin.

Yeah I bet I got over 50hrs in!!! I will never try it again! Last night I went over it with 320, 400,600. It looks better now.But alot more RUBBING to do. Thanks Alot Guy`s

that's the reason why we buy expensive grinders, lol. what type of sandpaper are you using, becuase i have handrubbed the finishes in all my knives and it takes on average 3-10 hours, depending on blade size, and material type.

I think its a wet and dry allumminum oxide its what the auto shops sell I`m still haveing trouble after 600 grit? I`ve made my knife worse I thought I would get someone to Beadblast it for me! Rich
