Handle finish question

I had a couple simple questions about handle finish. I figured this may have already been asked at some point, and I tried the search, but it's not showing results for some reason.

I've seen quite a few knives with file work done back between the handle scales. How is that area filled in? Is it just dyed epoxy or is there something else used in those cases?

Second, is there a recommended epoxy to use? I know, I know...this is like asking what the best pickup truck is. I've watched many knife maker videos, and read so many conversations, where it is said the longer curing epoxy is best. Is there a specific brand or type that is the "go to" for most makers? Does it matter if you're using wood (as I intend) or one of the many synthetic materials?

As for the file work, I've no clue. Someone will weigh in for you.
Gflex epoxy by west systems is a universally good epoxy. It's a two part mix. $20 of it lasts a good while. When you use it, you can tell a difference from the $3 stuff you get from lowes.

Often, it's not filled in. The epoxy is picked out of the filework before it sets.

If you want to fill it with epoxy, you can get pigments to color it with. I use black and red pigments that I get from Jantz supply.
