I'm planning to buy my first HI in probably 18" Ang Khola...can't wait! Have any of you replaced the handle? If so, is the blade a full or tapered tang? Thank you for your help.

Most are tapered tang. There was a thread that has been running all week on which models are full tang. Have a glance there and you'll get a comprehensive list and can find out which yours is.

ALOT of people on here have replaced, repaired, or otherwise modified the handles. I haven't done so personally (i like the handles), but if you troll the forum, you'll find alot of step-by-steps on how it was done, and the end product of the project.

An Ang Khola will have a tapered or "rat tail" tang running full length of the solid, one piece handle and peened at the buttcap. H.I. makes their "rat Tail" tangs beefier than most, you will never have a problem with them under narmal useage. A CAK or Chiruwa Ang Khola will have a full tang that is the full width and shape of the handle. The handle is split into two halves and secured by steel pins. There have been replacements of both style handles by professionals and forum members alike. It is not an easy job.

As long as they keep putting nice handles on them in the first place, I will leave them alone. I have done a few rehandle jobs on other things that displeased me. I am still new to these though and so far they are all a lot nicer than the ones I wold be making in what passes for my shop (yes I know their shops are probably on par but they know what they are doing).

wow- thanks for the help...for some reason when I came to the HI forum for the first time I didn't see all the postings and I did not see the full-tang thread. Thanks for the heads up.
