I don't know about you guys...but I have a hard time throwing away excess handle materials...cut-offs, etc.

They're starting to pile up on me....:foot:

If anybody can make use of any of these...they are yours for the taking - just pay shipping. Scroll down to post #7 in this thread:

Let me know what you want by posting to the above thread.

Might make for an interesting spacer....bolster...inlay....I've even stacked them for the same handle. But I don't do many hidden-tangs nowadays...so I don't need them anymore.

First come, first serve...but preference given to newbies. :D

Daniel.
I would love to remove all that terrible stuff from your hands. Email me with further instructions please.

Ok Matt....I have a few others ahead in line...let me clear them out...do you want what's left?

I must've posted at the same time...

Well nevermind then...dang, always too slow for the good stuff.:foot:

i got apile of "cut off" and cut out from handle curves too
least im not the only handle scale packrat (i spent too much $$$ not to keep it round for somethign)

Daniel, I sent you an email. I'm interested in trying out some variety, maybe some stabilized wood. Thus far my experience is limited to micarta and (unstabilized) mesquite.

I have some fillet knives next up on the bench. Would that stabilized wood hold up to that kind of hard, wet, usage?

Sure wood. The best would be desert ironwood...but it's getting kinda pricey. A good alternative would be cocobolo.

Any of the stabilized woods, though, are mostly impervious to water...meaning...they are stabilized, but still wood. If you drop it in a jar of water to test it out...eventually it will take some in. But for general "wet use"....it's the best way to go. Which is why it's the handle material I use most. I posted a nice block of stabilized curly maple up for grabs if anybody's interested. Found it while cleaning...

Wow you guys all have so much STUFF lol! Here i am scrounging scraps of wood from the corner of my basement to find something for handle material =D

I've got a couple pieces of bone which IG gave me that I want to use, and I've got a piece of elk antler I bought from Mace for 20$ which came from the Moran estate that I want to make a nice moran style bowie with... and I thought that a section of antler, 3 pieces of bone, and 4 blocks of wood was a lot of handle material till I saw some of the things you're all posting =D

On the other hand, I've been so slow at producing blades that the material I have will probably last me till the end of the year >_<

Is stabalized wood easy to work with? I've never really seen the stuff.

Depends on the wood....but most of them are easy to work with. Somewhere between regular wood and ironwood. As in, the impregnated resin makes it tougher...but it's not as tough as ironwood.

I can't get enough of the stuff...(obviously...:foot: )

:D

sorting through the stuff today, Matt....I'll keep you posted.
