Handle Material

Does anyone have an original idea for handle material that they would share? I want to make a knife with a handle like most people will never see again. Thanks!

I have a photo on my hard drive of a knife by Tom Bullard, of Comfort Texas, that has an Armadillo tail handle. Unfortunately, it won't load here because of size.

Saw a guy at a gun show recently who was using scales cut from the windscreen of a fighter aircraft. He mixed glitter into the epoxy, so it was visible under the scales. Cool effect, but you'd want to finish the tang cleanly and perhaps the pin holes too, somehow. I thought he had something, though.

Why dont you try a spider in clear epoxy for a pommel or spacer. Remember the mosquito in the amber? Scorpians are cool too. Maybe a real rattle snake neck and head or better yet a California Condor leg and claws holding a huge gemstone. Are they on the endangered list? Maybe not. How about a VOO DOO theme and use a chicken leg. Somebody stop me.....

Ive always wondered about those canes in the novelty catalogs made out of a petrified bulls pecker. Maybe we could call it Texas Oosic. L6, that was bad how about great aunt gertrudes ashes mixed with fiber glass resin??

This is my idea of a different handle. Green g-10 with a cord wrapped in a channel I groudn out int he handle. The cord is made by my girlfriend. I call this model Magic, or Magic Knot Knife.

Try musk ox horn. If it is cut from front to back on the boss it has very interesting patterns.I can not bear to cut these up .

Thanks alot everybody. One of my friends and I were talking about an obsidian handle. Would it work? This would be for a display knife, not really soething usable.

How about stacked bone? you know flat sections stacked up like a stacked leather handle would be. Maybe put something between the layers.

Okay, so it isn't all that original. You could make a handle with a pommel that is clear/translucent and get a "traser Glowring" and remove the little vial and put it in the end of the handle. I've always thought it'd be neat to have a shorter one of those you could glue into the lanyard hole of your favorite folder.

You could take some coarse fabric like denim and glue it in layers effectively creating your own denim micarta or G-10. That might be neat. ?!?
