So to the knife experts ..which do you perfer a metal(steel or aluminum) knife handle or a G-10/resin handle material and why?

I like g10 for grip and durability. I also like Titanium for the feel, strength, but it is quite pricey so for the average user, I think g10 is better. I like micarta as well, but I dont like how it picks up oil and other liquids

I prefer non-metallic handles. I like the feel better. It's a personal preference thing. YMMV.

I like the linen micarta that TOPS and RAT Cutlery use the best.

I don't like a lot of handle materials because they're toxic.
Plastic and especially rubber handles can off-gas toxic chemicals which are used in their manufacturing.

For a knife that I'm going to put to work, g10 or micarta really can't be beat. I like the cf and titanium scales on my dressier knives, but I find most examples aren't as good in a purely utilitarian way, in my experience at least

Wood, micarta or G-10 are my preference. I do not like the feel of metal handles, they are just to cold & slick for my liking. Most of the synthetic materials are more than strong enough for a heavy duty user knife.

I'm no 'knife expert', but I prefer metal handles on pocketknives, generally. Well, I like wood best, but that's not exactly a popular handle material choice among modern manufacturers... Basically, G10 shreds my pockets and I don't find it feels any better than a good aluminum handle. I also like steel handles when the knife is extremely slim, because I like a slim knife now and again.

Chemistry lessons from a teenager.

What, exactly, do you think micarta is made from?

Let me give you a hint, one of the ingredients is a thermosetting plastic, you know, that stuff with the toxic chemicals.

especially one who slashes tires...

Wood, stag and G-10. In that order.
Nothing beats the beauty of a good exotic hardwood as a knife handle material, IMO.
Look at Desert Ironwood, Bocote and Maple as a few quick examples.

Canvas Micarta for a working knife/camp knife, exotic wood for a hand me down and India stag for a pocket knife.

I really do not like aluminum handles. I will not buy a knife with aluminum handles. It scratches and dents easily and will look a lot more worn than it actually is. It also feels cold and life less and usually doesn't have much grip. I'm not a big fan of stainless or titanium either but they are slightly better than aluminum.

I like G10 and carbon fiber on folders and even like FRN if it is an economy model. It may feel and look like 'plastic' but it is very durable and probably one of the tougher materials used for knives.

I'm not a big fixed blade person but the one I have has wood and I like the way it feels but it is a hunting knife and not a tank buster.

I like natural materials (stag, bone, mammoth) on my light carry knives, and G10/Micarta on my users. The G10 and the FFG Endura and the Micarta on the RC/ESEE knives are fantastically awesome, especially when dirty and damp.:thumbup:

not metal due to heat transfer (summer heat and winter cold)
Prefer wood or stacked leather, then canvas/linen micarta, G10, paper micarta in that order.
I don't rule out other materials, that's just my order of preference.
