Handle Materials I Love and Hate

Most liked is Amber Stag, period. Really like Black Lip Pearl, good
Sheephorn, Mammoth Ivory. I like Ivory but the stuff cracks, too much!! Wood, I have too many!!

For synthetics, Green Canvas Micarta, good enough for Bob good enough for me!! No use at all for Carbon Fiber or G10, I own some but only because they're from a guy named Ernie.

Wrapped handles are OK on Oriental style blades.

My thoughts,
Win

Stag. All stag is good stag, I love the way it looks, the way it feels in the hand, and it"s pretty rugged.

He could have stopped right there.
Everything looks better in Stag.

Looking at the knives in my collection, jigged bone would come next, but wood, horn and other natural materials would be my choices.

For all around use I guess Micarta. I have a polished Livesay HRK and it is stunning. I've had a Busse BM-E and it's amazing it was the same type of material.
Stag doesn't do it for me To each their own
I have a mammoth ivory/bonefolder beautiful but fragile
Leather - Had a pukko style and I liked it jut something traditional
The rest do nothing for me.

Here is my list;

I like all types of materials for handles;

as long as they are stag..

tc

thank you very much

I love mammoth ivory, IF it is of premium quality, ie. vivid, blue bark ivory. Next i like black pearl, then white pearl, again, as long as it is premium stuff with great color. Carbon fiber is nice on tactical knives. Various woods if figured and finished nicely, snakewood and Thuya burl are especially nice.

This reads like some sort of twisted singles ad...
OK, here I go:
Turn ons, Stag, Ivory, horn (sheep, buffalo, cow), MOP (on SJ's)
The older they get, the better they look.
Turn offs, cord wrap, stone, and dare I say it? Burls.
I can live with Micarta, especially Black or White Paper Micarta.

I feel so dirty.
:rolleyes:
:D

I am in to Carbon Fiber right now

Did CF inserts on a MT Amphib.

Did CF scales on the CQC7

About to do CF scales on a Buck Strider MINI Tanto with decorative holes showing the Ti liners i plan on polishing

Most popular handle material? My customers here in SE Iowa all seem to want wood or antler, or a combo of both, such as a 3 1/2" section of wood in between 2 1/2"sections of antler with a palm swell. Leather handles run about 1 out of 30 or 40 handles. Manmade stuff here doesn't appeal at all,considered "cheap"looking.

For a hard use knife I like Zytel/FRN. For a slipjoint Delrin is okay but I prefer stag/wood/bone/horn. Carbon fibre just feels wierd to me. Metal handles look nice but tend to be too slippery for my taste.
