Im new to knive making and im looking for a catalog to order handle materials to finish my first knife, im looking for a mail order catalog or a website.Thankyou all
Mike
I went to Texas Knifemaker's Supply and requested their catalog. Had it in a few days. It is pretty complete in the handle materials area. You can find their address in the Links section at the front page of this website. If you want some tips on doing kit knives, then see my website, too, which you may find helpful. The link is below. Have you thought about what you want to use yet for handle materials? I like Micarta best right now, although woods of all sorts have a lot of character. Wood tends to be easier to work, but more finicky with warping and whatnot. You may want to look for stabilized woods, which are sort of like woods that have been plasticized for less deformation under temperature. I have never used any stabilized woods, but most places carry them. Good luck, and let us know how it goes! Oh..also what are you using for pins?
K and G is also a good sourse for all kinds of knife finishing supplies including handle material. Probably the best and most accomadating is WSSI for stabilized wood. I prefer the stabilized material (almost all the other material can be stab.) becaused it isn't effected by the elements hardly at all.
I guarentee it doesn't look "plastisized"
You can see the pictures on my web and see that they look natural. Also there is a link on my page for WSSI. K and G Supply is in Arizona.
Mike, contact the good folks at Koval Knives
800-556-4837 and get some "Fantasy Marble Pearl" in scales or slabs. Just finished a drop-point hunter with the bronze-mocha color and turned really great!!! It works easily and buffs to shiny finish.
