Handle on a knife with filework on the tang

I've had epoxy stay gummy after adding colorant. In my case I had used black acrylic craft paint. Now I use dry Rit dye and it seems to work better. Maybe colorant specifically for epoxy would work better.

Not wanting to hijack this thread, but seeing as how dyeing the epoxy had become part of the conversation, I'll add my 2 bits...
I've been using either wood sandings or pencil lead powder (with ebony) to mix with my epoxy for colors. Is this a bad idea?

On the last knife I tried to use wood sanding but the result wasn't great mostly because the wood was light I guess. I normally use artist pigments.

I have just used epoxy colorant. They sell a couple different colors at Texas knifemakers supply. It doesn't take a whole lot and works just fine.

You might try concrete coloring powder. It's cheap & readily available. Do a couple of test batches to see how much color you need, how the mix cures & how hard it gets. Available in different colors. A 1# box would last forever.

Disclaimer: I haven't used it for epoxy, I normally use powdered graphite, colloidal silica or aluminum powder for flow/color modifiers.

Knife is getting closer to done. There are a couple place were the epoxy had a bubble in it which I found when sanding.

Finished. So it is an O1 blade with brass bolsters and an oak handle held by mosaic pins.

Artist pigments. I usually use them for modeling
