I didn't really like the fat handles on this .220 warden. I thought I would remove them and make a necker, but it occurred to me I could at least try slimming them first.

I used a belt sander, than some sandpaper by hand. I got into the tube-fasteners on purpose, to get as narrow as possible.

Not perfect, but they feel nice. I may make them a tad more even some day.

not bad. I have been thinking about doing the same to my SAR5, and was going to pull the grips completely from my fat GW.

Thanks for the comments and links. the knife has gone from one i didn't really like, to one i enjoy and will carry.

Yeah, Lycosa, this one goes on the waist, I'm afraid it would still be heavy with the scales removed. Not sure, though.

Busse does not glue on the scales, so if you take those tubes down much more, there won't be any clamping from the flare.

Looks good, though. I did some work on the handle of a SAR5, but maybe I should go farther like you did.

Tom,

Great looking mod. The G10 really pops!

Did you do something to control the G10 dust? The reason I ask is that I heard on Koster's forum that the dust from G10 was bad mojo for your lungs.

Thanks!

The dust is bad? Oh, well. Looked like most of it stayed around the sander. I didn't taste very much!

G10 dust will kill you. Literally. It is so bad for your lungs. Even if you don't see it, or taste it, you really should wear a good mask. Unless you are wet sanding it by hand, I guess you might not need one.

If you are going to die of lung cancer, at least do it smoking some nice cigars, weed etc, and get some enjoyment out of it.

also be careful with grinding the tubes down. once you get past the counter sink in the slabs, there won't be much of anything holding them in place since busse doesn't use any kind of glue or epoxy.

I'd say that it probably wont matter since a knife of the game wardens size won't be seeing to much stress, but this is a busse we're talking about.

Does the mod really make a noticable difference in the knife's weight?

It's a lot lighter now. G10 is heavy. If i was really gonna use it as a necker, it would be a big deal.

On my waist with a 1911, snubby and ammo?

Not so much.

I used to do fiber glass repair for a period of time, and dude, always wear a mask! That stuff will take your lungs and s**t on em'.

Just be careful, it's nasty stuff, and even when you don't think your breathing it, you are.

VERY nice outcome though!

Here we go:

I left the area hear the blade alone, so it will still fit the kydex sheath.
