Handle shaping

Uncle, I wonder if you or Pala could share with us by what method khukuri handles are shaped? Do the kamis use the equivalent of a belt sander, the way most US knifemakers do?
As the owner of a handle-less khukuri and a block of hard wood, I would like to know.

Rough shaping is done with a khukuri -- even Pala does this when making a handle here and he has various power tools at his disposal. Final shaping is done with a rasp and then buffing on a grinder.
