Tape? I've used very fine skateboard tape for a few fixed blades. Otherwise, I stick to 550 cord.

I use powerflex sports tape. It is grippy but you can remove it anytime you want. Comes in colors. Googe powerflex sports tape Awesome stuff.

3M Stairstep tape works really good and has a great adhesive on it to keep it sticking where you put it.

You can get many great grippy handle tapes from your local tennis sports shop. I'd start there ...

I bought some tennis/racket handle tape from wally world (it was like 5-6 bucks)
and wrapped my machetes with it. Good for sweaty hands and a way better grip.

I've done a few other blades and ran out of the red tape they supply for sealing it up,
so I just used black plastic tape and it works fine.
