Handle wood question

I do a lot of work on guitars and a friend and former band mate of mine builds guitars and furniture. We had a leftover piece of purple heart that is too small for anything guitar related but would be the perfect size for a hidden tang.

In guitars we use it because it is a great tone wood but I know it loses its color fairly quick.

Is there any way to treat it so that it will keep its color?

I will use it one way or the other, but if I can't protect the color at least for awhile I will use some other pieces with it for contrast and just plan on it being brown.

Edit to add, I did some scales out of purple heart last week with a ca finish, they looked great, just don't know how long it will stay purple yet.

You need to block uvb and oxidation, basically impossible. You can slow it down, but not stop the colour shift. Finish with Danish oil, or whatever you usually use. The wood is quite stable. I've used it for kitchen knives, where simple works better. It holds up well.

Thanks guys.

Been really busy lately not sure when I will get to it but I think I will probably use super glue again, maybe add something to it for a bolster.

Kitchen knives spend a lot of time in the drawer, and don't colour change very quickly.
