So how much do you guys think it should cost to install handles on a busse knife? The handles have to be shaped and fitted. If you provide the micarta slabs, and the knife already has the holes for securing.

You should be able to do it yourself. :D :p

I'd say, it probably takes three pulls per side of a lever... $50 tops

I know a certain someone who may be able to help with this Cobalt. I cannot volunteer his work myself...but I bet if you pay shipping and cost of screws...he'd do it for free. When he sees this he may chime in.

Very timely for me as well

Also interested in this information, not for free service...

I did some work on a SAR 5 G10 handle that is actually quite comfortable, and has become more of an "organic" style as opposed to a symmetrical, clean style, if you will...

I was going to take the opportunity to remove scales and do a full hand finish job and replace with some bone scale material from a reputable supplier.

Would need shaping, drilling, securing etc...

Apologies if this is a hi-jack...figured it would be equally as relevant for those with advice for Cobalt.

Whomever it is can pm me but I will not let anyone do it for free. I would pay. and I do appreciate it.

I'm curious now, do you have some custom and/or interesting micarta you are using?

Same curious question from me? I've made my own micarta and mounted it before. Sure I messed up the first time...but it was worth the effort.

Micarta slabs are cheap. So is sand paper. A 1x30 works wonders for handles and sharping. I use mine for both. Belts are cheap. For the cost of the grinder and 20-30 bets you could pay someone to do it. Or have the ability to do it yourself. And with a few tries and a few hours you should be good at it. Getting a cnc type texture will be harder. But a smooth handle is pretty easy. [emoji6][emoji106]

Ive done it a few times. Have another tglb im working on now. And plan on stripping a bt6 and doing canvas handles. Pm me if you would like to know how i do it. There are also a few guys on the forum that do it professional and do amazing work.

yes, I do. It is very cool and I have slotted bolts to go with it. I would rather not screw it up trying it myself.

Yeah, it is actually a G10 and I do not want to mess them up. If this was an ugly knife like an NO or a Hell Razor, it would be no big deal :D

Seriously though, I would rather not mess these scales up and I am likely to

Head over to the knife makers forum and post. There's a difference between someone doing it for themselves and someone doing it for money. Time is usually not a factor and people are more willing to accept minor mistakes when they do it for themselves.

G10 is harder to work with, working out the threads, protecting the existing knife finish and executing what you want are all factors in pricing.

I think $75-150 depending on who you ask and the hidden variables you have not described yet.

Think about it guys, you pay $50-90 for a set of G10 1911 grips and all they do is screw on.

Absolutely

Are you trying to reuse the factory slotted bolts? I've done a rescale on a 1/300 and reused the factory bolts. Turned out pretty nicely.

I'll vouch for Tyrade. Does GREAT work!! He has a real eye for detail.
The TG scales are factory machined that Tyrade smoothed.
The other three he made from scratch and the 1/300 has the factory slotted bolts.

When its a SH like the BM or ASH its reasonable but the Fusion handle takes more material due to the curvature. Hand shaped swells with bolts probably 3 hours to cut and paste fully sanded for micarta (final sand I do with a soapy water then buff with 0000 steel wool).
