Handles for BK11

I'm wrapping the handles on my BK11 with paracord for now but I would really like to add a set of wood scales. I know I can order the micarta but I was wondering if anyone makes wooden scales. I found crimsonfalcon07's threads and those are some incredible handles. I would love to do it myself but I don't have any woordworking tools right now. Does anyone else make wood handles? Thanks in advance for helping!

I have made wooden scales for my 14 and it was really fun. Its really not hard if you have some basic tools like files, coping saw, and some sand paper. Power tools help but are not a must. I need to pick up an 11 one of these days. Maybe one with the new coating :-)

I wouldn't mind cutting them out using a coping saw and I have the sandpaper, but it is drilling the holes to attach them that will be setting me back right now. :(

Yeah i used my drill press for mine. I suppose you could just use a normal cordless drill but just make sure you have a level hand.

I started to make wood scales. Then I realized it would cost as much as the micarta. The micarta would have better fit and finish. And the micarta is bomb proof. They are really great. I love my set.

This is the best pic of them I have right now.

Soldmyhat: Those handles look really nice. I like the orange sheath too! Thank you very much for the pics. I was going for wood, even though it may not be as comfortable, because I want the look.

No problem. The more YOU like it, the more you will USE it. Get what makes you happy and have fun!

A forum member is gonna hook me up with some wood handles! I am really excited and will post pictures after I get them and put them on my BK11.

Glad to hear you got hooked up man. I would have offered to make you a basic set but i am lacking on time and a bk11 at the moment ;) Looking forward to seeing the pictures!

Alright, got some work done in the last hour. Bocote, full cover with bottle opener opening, scalloped texturing. Does NOT fit the stock sheath, but since this is destined for Kydex, that's okay. Stainless hardware that can be easily removed in the field with anything flat for cleaning, tru-oil finish. Still need to do the hand sanding, and take pictures with a camera that doesn't have a scratched lense, but you can get the idea. Love the bocote. It's my new favorite, at least until I get into some decent burl.
