Handles for BK11

Looks good CF! I like the textured grip. Ive been meaning to take a Dremel to some spare grivory...see if I can make the cool ''scallops'' like I see on G10 scales a lot

Thanks guys. It's actually not too bad to do that texturing, although it makes the finishing process much more tedious, and is also really important to get the best aesthetics out of micarta or layered G10, IMO. I'd still do a smoothy texture on the bigger handles, but for the smaller EDC blades, I think good texturing is pretty helpful.

I was thinking about doing the same thing. I only have 1 scale to test on so I better practice on one of my wifes cutting boards that I already messed up and hid

Okay, I've been painstakingly sanding out those little grooves, and am pretty happy now with how these scales look. At the risk of tooting my own horn, my BK11 is grumbling about me taking them off, and refuses to cooperate unless I make another set for it. I told it that that might be difficult because if I do, then I have to make it a leather sheath, and it doesn't seem to be bothered.

I'm about finished, sanded to 12000 grit, 5 coats of Tru Oil. I think I'm getting better at making these, at least. I am certainly faster. My first set of scales took me two days. I can get pretty close to finished on a set of scales in about 2 hours now.

12000 grit gives a nice luster:

It's still got a fairly thin profile, which swells out towards the pommel of the knife, to help it fill the hand better.

And of course, the bottle opener is still accessible, since you might as well have a 14 if you're not gonna use the bottle opener.

This set doesn't have the insert, so it's held in place by friction from keeping the screws tight. I did it that way to reduce issues with fit. One of these days I'd really like to do a permanent set of scales for someones BK11 or 14, with the scales epoxied on, and with mosaic pins.

I will take one for the team and volunteer any of my Beckers for this risky mission! ;)

That bocote looks great! nice work on that...dang finish looks like liquid glass in pics! Mad props Brother!

WOW! Those look incredible. That is fantastic work and the bocote wood just gleams! My lil' BK11 is gonna look very lovely all decked out like that! :D

On their way to you. Post up pics when they get there. I put on a few more coats of the tru-oil. They're not quite that shiny in real life. Not sure what it was about the lighting that makes them look quite like that. But it's still nice stuff, and the darker side looks a lot like tiger's eye stone or something. If you want it more glossy, a coat or two of tung oil periodically will help it keep it's luster.

Pics will be posted as soon as I get them on the 11. I am really quite stoked! Thank you again!
