Hanging a bear bag

Thanks JV3. The thing that makes me wonder, if wrapping the food in a tarp works so well, why do the advocates of this method bother putting the food in a remote location?

Very smart black bears (same for much of the Sierra region as well) they've learned to foil most hanging techniques, evidently there have even been a few (very few) successful foils of even canisters

Yup, so much so Yosemite doesn't recognize it as a viable method any longer, bear cans required if camping overnight in the wilderness. I've seen some cars with their doors ripped completley open in the Sierras. The tarp thing seems interesting although I don't think it'd work with the bear density we have out here in CA. Backcountry hunting can be a bit of a challenge if you have to overnight, but the pct method and some meat bags does work in this pinch. All about scent discipline.
