Hanging a Hudson Bay axe, need help, it will be by steps

Looks like a good fit to me. I personally like a slimmer shoulder closer to the head but there is nothing wrong with that. In fact there are advantages like increased protection from overstrikes. It's all personal preference. I would sand down the shaved part before the final seating. Good job.

Here is it again, please provide your comments, thanks in advance

from what i can see, you've done a fine job. will you make your own wood wedge? it would be good to learn how to make the wood wedge. besides you can practice making them untill you gain skill and if you ever hang another axe you'll have a stash of wedges ready to go.
i could've used some good advice from a pro back when i started hanging axes but i guess in the long run, making about all the mistakes in the book taught me... in other words i learned the hard way.

after you get the head hung, you can still work on slimming down the handle if you want. a cabinet scraper, spokeshave, or a piece of broken window pane or similar sharp sided glass makes a good scraper. i've used them all. broken glass is good for scraping off the lacquer coating from the handle.

Good you talked about wedge, as you know HH sells handles with a wedge, it has an unregular shape, it is not straight and is a little bit longer than the eye...... Because it is soft wood, would it get inside hammer or down? Or should I cut it to fit in the eye? Please advice
Thanks

It's best to trim them to just a hair over the length of the eye in my experience. Taper the corners of the end and the rest will come off as you drive the wedge leaving you with a nicely fit wedge. Make sure it's not too steep before you set it.

The handle looks much better, but personally I'd thin it down just below the head even further. It's not needed by any means but like I said I'm just picky about handles. Good work!

Well, This is the result. Now, to wedge or not to wedge, that is the question. If wedge, should I trim 1/4 the one I have?

Please advise

man i would not drive that metal wedge into the wood. but , if you do, drive it in line with the wood wedge not crosswise or perpendicular .

Yeah that wedge is gonna split the shit outta your handle. I'd probably run it as is and then do something if it gets loose.

Do you put anything inside the axe to help with rust prevention?

These aren't European or British car type unibody structural-type items where a frosting of rust essentially compromises the metal. In the absence of oxygen metals don't oxidize very much anyway, But, all the more reason to 'hang tight' in the first place.
And maybe lightly mist the eye with some sort of oil (WD-40?) before it's hung.
