hankerchief anyone?

You guys have me convinced. I'm going to start carrying a handkerchief, and see if it's something I find useful.

Growing up, I just didn't notice people use them much. A child born in the post-Kleenex world, I used to think "Who would want to blow their nose, and then put a snotty rag back in their pocket?" But now I'm imagining all kinds of uses for having a bit of clean cloth on you.

Some people get a little freaked out by the idea of putting snot back in your pocket. That's why I carry a couple. Also, if I anticipate a lot of blowing (cold and flu season) I'll put a travel packet of Kleenex in my pocket and keep my hankies for other work.

Not in that order, I hope.

Hehe!

I used to carry one, I agree they are super useful for all manner of things. Not sure why I stopped toting one around. With the advent of larger phones, knives, and other gadgetry it must have fell by the way side. At least in my case. The last package (of 3) I had found at the store the quality just didn't feel right for the asking price. I'll have to look around again, I suppose if nothing else I can make something that looks and performs decently out of an old T shirt.

I carried a bandana for a while. Now I don't. I just didn't use it for anything. I don't like carrying snot around in my pocket so I never used it as a snot rag. If I have a cold I carry a to-go pack of Kleenex. A lot less...gross.

Just raising awareness here...

Yeah, I never got into the hankie as a nose rag. That's what I always keep a few folded up paper towels in a back pocket for. The paper towels work well and stand up to a sneeze better than Kleenex. Then dispose of.

I carry a nice quality red one that I think my grandfather gave me, or another that I got when passing hunter's safety or some other course they reside in my left back pocket because I am a leftie. I read CM's chart, oh lawd XD.

I carry one, but its large and is an exact copy of the one carried by Lt. John Seldon of the Richmond Howitzers during the War for Southern Independence. It comes in handy quite a bit, but I've never blown my nose in it.

I use my handkerchief for nose blowing / sneezing only as a last resort / emergency if I don't have ready access to tissue. But that is what I use it for. Most use is cleaning my glasses if I don't have a lens cloth also at the time.

If I do use it as a snot or sneeze rag, I fold it appropriately and I put it in the laundry basket when I get home. If not, I'll reuse it for maybe a week at least.

Yeah that's the downside, you have to wash them good. Plenty of soap and the boiling cycle sorts even the worst ones. Kinda gross really.

Wow. I have a red hanky too. Better make sure when I carry its on the left hand side, I wouldn't want any unwelcome surprises.

Hey CM, word on the street is you carry a teal blue in your RH pocket :p

You busting my balls :D

ok, ?? who makes a good one recommended by you guys and where can they be purchased ? I also have issues with bandannas, being too small. Any help there as well ? thanks rb

I don't really wear whites, and some of my hankys get really nasty ... :barf:

Whatever works though, no criticism intended

No criticism taken. But you did get me to think. At worst, whatever's in your nose is just dirt and grime plus mucous which is just some sort of fluid from your body. If there are any germs there, (and I tend to be more germ-aware than most people) so be it. In the end, it's no worse than some of the dirt and organic material from your body that are on your clothes and underwear. So, I still think it's okay to throw it in the laundry.
