Was watching Hannibal the other day and couldn't help but notice the knife he was using in the scene where he throws the guy from the balcony. Also in another scene where he slashes a guy in the leg. Has anyone seen this? Is it a Spyderco? This is just a question for fun...

Which has only ever been seen in the movie. I remember people asking on the SpyderForum about it.

They exist, just in very small numbers. The primary market for the Harpy(those in the maritime industry) prefer the serrated edge to the plain.

Someone over on the Spyderco factory forum scored a PE SS Harpy with GIN-1 blade a few days ago. Even Sal called that a nice snag, there weren't very many made.

Remember what Anthony Hopkins said about the time he opened that Spyderco and just before he pushed his trussed up hostage off the balcony?

"BOWELS IN, OR BOWELS OUT?"

Now, that was one seriously creepy movie! Anthony Hopkins is a helluva good actor, too.

I think he used a civilian as well. Maybe just in the books but not the movies.

I knew a guy who carried a harpy, and lusted after a civilian because of the Hannibal connection.

If you are looking for that form factor, try finding a Merlin. Also no longer made but I found both a plain edge and SE Merlin. Light, strong, wicked sharp and effective. I keep trying to talk my wife into carrying one but she refuses. Still only a SAK. :o

I think both were found at GPKnives last summer.

I remember that movie and trying to look closely at the knife scenes to see what knife he was using. It was very creepy in a sick sick way. He did massive damage with the knife he used. I have a harpy in G-10 with SE. I would love love love this knife in green g-10 with a plain edge..I would even go for a custom made version to get what I want! I should look into that. ANy of you have a custom made version of a Spyderco?

I was watching it the other night and thought "Wow, I've never seen one with a plain edge".

I prefer the s-shaped Matriarch or Civilian...

but yep, that scene is brutal....

Guys ; l.was visiting.a.web page called.deviant art by lady Hannibal about the Harpy used.in the.film. she.claims that.the film.production said that the knife used was a plain edge VG-10 spyderco Harp.
Then.l.read another 2001 thread on Spyderco.com where a guest.claimed.that.she.had been.involved.in.the.film.Hannibal and.said that it was a serrated spyderco.Harp which was used in.the film. It.it.quite.confusing as.to.who is telling.the truth . To make.things more confusing there is.a.Site.called.Hannibal.props museum.where there.is a.picture.of.the screen.used.stunt.knife. it looks.awfully.close.to.a.civilian.( plain.edge)

there is a site called deviant art by lady hannibal. the writer claims that the film production said that the knife was a plain edge vg10 spyderco harpy . but there was an old 2001 thread on spyderco.com where a guest claimed that she was involved in the film. she stated that the knife was a serrrated model. so its kinda confusing. but i know for sure that the book mentions a serrated spyderco harpy

So OP, I'm kind of curious why you are so interested in what weapon a cannibal uses. Should we be worried?

No. Not at all. I use my knives for utility purposes. And wood carving ( but I'm an amateur). I w as just curious because that film was one of my favourites and l love Spydercos. So l was always kinda curious to know what kind of knife that could have been. Any ideas as to who is telling the truth and who is lying. And what do you guys think the knife was and why. Rest assured . Even though l love horror films and knives l am not planning any thing heinous. But l have always found it satisfactory to correctly identify a knife used in a film ; especially since that film is one of my favourites. I hope you understand sir :-)
