First and foremost, thanks Kevin for providing a place for us to hang out and talk about the things we love all pointy and sharp. You've given us a place to discuss the things we love with other fanatics and knife knutz.

Thanks to the Mods who over the last 20 years have seen every form of behavior from tantrums to devastating grief and loss.

20 years, wow! seems like only yesterday yet in many ways it's been a lifetime. Blade Forums has been around under the same same for 2 decades. 20 years, long enough for our kids to have had their own kids. Long enough to go from having these conversation on a desktop/laptop computers to doing this all on smartphones.

Long enough so that we have an annual knife with our own Tang stamp. Each one was quite the accomplishment and a great story about sacrifice and compromise and we made some beautiful knives. Look for yourself.

We've seen our friends grow here, grow up here and go on to war and to have families here. We've lost friends over the years, some like you and me, some were master Craftsman, some were leaders in the industry and community. All were here for the same thing, knives and the love of all things sharp.

Some of you old farts or OB, (Original Bast**s) remember the Wild West atmosphere here as Spark, Mike Bastid, Esav and so many others tried to push and pull this all together into a semi-cohesive version that worked. It's been a long and difficult road for some and these guys that volunteer their time to police the insanity that pops up here from time to time. The Mods, the unsung heroes of BFC. Thanks for all you guys do.

First timers, I know you've heard it before but read more post less and learn the room before exploding on to the forum scene. Read the stickies at the top of each forum and subforum, they may just help you to navigate the pages of BFC.

I've made a lot of friends in the last 20 years, you may know some or even be one yourself ;) so say hello, let us know how long you've been here. If it's your first time I encourage you to become a registered member or at least Gold and enjoy the other portions of the forum.

Leave a comment if you'd like, just remember where you are in the family friendly portion of the forum.

Some of you recognize me or more likely my Avatar because I've been around so long.

To the 1%, 33 in particular, the folks on the porch and the ones on the bus, the OBs and the OPs, I love you guys and you'll always have my friendship and respect. Some of you are like family to me and it's for you I do this.;) :D The Readers Digest, Condensed version of the above AKA The TL;DR version.

BFC's been here for 20 years and it ain't goin' nowhere. Stop in say hello and let us know how long you've been a member, we'd love to hear from you.

The best advice I read as a new member 5 years ago was to read more and post less. I guess Ted, some of you old timers ;) do have pearls of wisdom that make sense. I came for the knives, but stay for the friends. I’ve learned many things here and continue to learn. Just when you think you’ve seen it all, someone will prove you wrong. The mods continue to do a great job at keeping things in order in a thankless job. So many things have changed in the last 20 years that it’s mind boggling.

Happy Anniversary, BF, and thanks to Ted for the thread.

I've only been around officially for 25% of that time, but I lurked for years.:D

Great post Ted!

I'll probably be viewing via an implant in my brain but I hope to be here with you guys in another 20 years :D Thanks to all who make this place great!

~Chip

Right on Ted!  It’s been a pretty crazy, cool ride! :D

Just wish I could have figured out my old account from back in the beginning after the big crash. Unfortunately, having signed up with my college email address, it was unrecoverable. :( Oh well, still glad to have been part of it all! ;)

I forgot about the big crash, I lost a couple of thousand posts and my start date changed too. Some times I go to the early threads in the archives and read them rememberin' the different things that happened and how different things were back in 1999 compared to tonight wasg.

I'm a newb, only a couple years here but I stumbled upon a thread from 2002 last night and that was really cool !
I couldn't get the woodworking forums guys to talk to me about pocket knives . . . now I'm over here trying to get knife people to talk to me about woodworking.
I'm a little screwed up.
I am glad there is a place to come where people understand about why I enjoy sharp edges and making them that way.
Thank you to all that make Blade Forums work SO VERY WELL !
It's quite a place.
Once a person experiences a forum that is badly run and doesn't work THEN the difference is very much appreciated.

Thanks for reminding us about this Ted:thumbsup::)

I was late to the party only joining in '08 after a injury put me in bed for a month. It was during my convalescence that I discovered BF.
Before that my collecting had wained and I had not been to a knife show for years. BF re-energised me to start collecting again and within a year I was back at the Blade Show.

A big thank you to Kevin for creating this amazing space. It really has had a huge impact on my life.:)

Wait - didn't BFC start in late September of 1998? I saw it mentioned at Knife Center in early October and joined up then. Remember the original weird logo knife? And I wonder whatever became of Mike Turber, who actually started it all . . .

Mike Turber is alive and well and quite active on Facebook under his name. You can read about his daily exploits there and he occasionally can get pulled into remembering the earlu days of BF. Mike likes goin' after internet trolls much like he did in the early BF days.

Thanks Spark for this awesome place to come and check out all the cool knives and wares and all the great folks we have here as well. You all do a great job and keep up the good work. We need more folks to go Gold like mentioned and get all the advantages as well.

Thanks for the great posts, Ted!

I joined in 2009 when someone on the Candlepower forums mentioned the forum, and I was looking for information on a Emerson knife.

I have learned a lot from great people here, and also lost a lot of brain cells from reading stuff from the not so great people who have stumbled in from time to time.

All in all a great experience, and I helps keep me off of stinkin' facebook.

Congratulations, Bladeforums!!

best

What a long, strange trip it's been...

Elliot my friend, the changes we've seen in the industry in 20 years here. The friends we've made and the ones we've lost during that time, It's people like you who made this place what it is. Yea, it sure has been a long strange trip but I couldn't think of a better place to take it or better people to embark on it with.

One of these years my friend we'll meet face to face at one of the shows and shake hands.

Many many thanks to Bladeforums and all those who make it possible, long live our home away from home..... and may the fleas of a million camels infest the crotch of those who disagree!!!
