I didn't think about it I just opened the drawer and went straight for what attracted me (as long as it was American made). Well maybe I thought about it for a second . . . this or one of my Case Trappers. This one's made in my state of Colorado.
I was already listening to Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman and all like that . . . Frank Sinatra with Tommy Dorsey's Orchestra singing Blue Skies . . .
I'm not from that era but I have always been freekin' mesmerized by these guys (and gals) and that whole World War II sound.
That first CD was given to me by The Chef. Some of it is recordings of the actual broadcasts beamed into Germany during the war and a lot of it is in German; the banter on the stage and the song lyrics.
My gosh ! What a time ! ! !
If you have never seen it be sure to watch the film The Glenn Miller Story.
England was being bombed while Glenn and the band were giving a performance at an outdoor venue. The planes were flying right over them and Glenn gave the signal to the band : Screw it ! Keep PLAYING ! ! ! !
All the crowd who had been running for cover came back to the band stand.
It was a MONSTER MOMENT ! ! !
PS: I will say that recent intel has been made public that we may not have been able to win the war, at least not as decisively and suddenly, if England hadn't turned over key super secret radar developments that made possible for us to build automatic ground to air gun tracking. Get it . . . we could hit 'em even if we couldn't see 'em in the dark or clouds.
Good one UK ! ! !
