It is the Year of the Dog.

Young Bert, the not-right dog, is already exploiting the situation.

Hope you all have safe, healthy, happy, successful, and fulfilling Dog years.

From a cursory web search:

The Dog is a giving, compassionate personality. He offers kind words, support and advice to friends and family. He is a listener, always available to lend an ear or a shoulder to a friend in need. Often Dogs know more about their friends than their friends know about them or even themselves! Dogs are incredibly attentive. Sometimes though, Dogs should pay more attention to their own needs. In private, many Dog people worry a lot.

Years of the Dog

Eleventh in the cycle, Dog Years follow the Rooster years and recur every twelfth year. The Chinese New Year does not fall on a specific date, so it is essential to check the calendar to find the exact date on which each Dog Year actually begins.

1910*1922*1934*1946*1958*1970*1982*1994*2006

THE SIGN OF THE DOG

Dogs can be a bit overwhelming, due in part to their attentive natures. They can march in and take control of a situation, even when it doesn’t involve them directly. This can lead people to think Dogs are nosy or gossipy, but in reality, he just means well. Money and status don’t matter to the Dog. He is more concerned with the welfare of his family and friends and will do whatever it takes to help them out of a tight squeeze or a rough spot. Once Dogs determine a subject of interest, they usually master that before taking off for a new adventure. They like to finish what they start. They are honest and trustworthy people, ethically strong and morally kept. They make loyal friends and companions.

I'm a dragon, but I'm not a particularly good one, evidently. (I'm told that I'm a passable ogre but that's not part of any zodiac that I've seen.)

Me too. I'm a Metal Dragon,1940, suppose that's where my love for sharp pieces of steel come from or did the knights hunting me all the time do it? ;)

The dragon holds a special place in our heart. They are sometime eccentric, but always righteous, carefree but considerate yet always lovable.

My son was born in the year of the dragon. :)

(Happy New Year!)

We're sweeping the house today, cleaning up and decorating for the new year. Tonight we'll have fish and tofu dishes, and after dinner make jiao zi. We'll stay up to greet the year of the dog (and Red Flower and my aniversary), eat a few dumplings, and go to bed. Then on New Year's Day we'll go out for a big Chinese aniversary meal with family and friends.

I got a carved wooden dog to grace the mantle this year. The Rooster who's been looking at us all year is headed for storage.

Since it's the year of the fire dog, Red Flower and I had aniversary gifts made for each other from fire agate. Earrings and a belt buckle. I guess we'll put them on today or tomorrow.

PS - Spring couplets are a traditional part of the new year and the Spring Festival. Our new couplets are up. We have paper ones on the front door but I thought you guys might like this one we have in the interior.

Happy new year!

I learned that I'm a metal pig:thumbup: :D

THE METAL PIG 1911 AND 1971

Outspoken and confident, Metal Pigs give 110% for everything they do. They throw themselves into relationships with others completely, sometimes to a fault. These Pigs are headstrong and diligent in the workplace, honest and caring in a relationship and trustworthy with everyone he meets unless given reason not to be. Metal Pigs usually give people more credit than they deserve but when challenged can be a hard nut to crack.
