Happy Memorial day to all and a great thank you to those who served and are serving to keep this country free:thumbup:

I'll be in a cemetery in the next hour or so honoring the original colonel of my civil war company

Once upon a time, there was no middle class.

There was no living wage.

No child labor laws.

There were no job safety regulations.

So many of this generation don't even know about the history of how this country became great.

Today, let us not forget the veterans of the labor wars--the Americans who fought, bled and died for fair pay and safe working conditions so we could own homes, send kids to college and have a chance at a good life.

Thank you current and discharged Serviceman for the sacrifices you made toward saving our liberties and freedoms. I owe much gratitude to you all. May God Bless you. DM

I visited the cemetary yesterday where my brother and brother in law are both laid to rest, both ex Military personnel. Thanks and prayers for all of our militay personnel living and past.

THANK YOU, to all our American Military, those who severed in the passed and those who are serving now! I love this country and the freedom's we enjoy, just remember that they were hard won freedoms and some have paid the ultimate price for us. Take a moment today to give thanks to them.

Memorial Day is not about honoring or remembering unions and or union organizers. As an American and veteran I feel your post is inappropriate in this thread.

I'm an American and I'm retired from the military, so don't try to lecture me.

I can honor anybody I choose on Memorial Day. It's a day of remembrance of ALL the dead war veterans.

No combination of wars has had a greater impact on America than the Labor Wars.

This holiday has nothing to do with organized labor.Maybe you could post this on labor day but that's not what this holiday is about. If you appreciate this great country thank A SOLDIER THAT NEVER CAME HOME.

This thread should be locked

Agreed. I've been a loyal dues paying member of a trade union since 1961, but we have our day and it isn't Memorial Day. There are some that just don't know how to be appropriate!

I do....and far too many never came home from the labor wars.

Many of us have BOTH days and there's nothing inappropriate about honoring heroes.

This is a day for all of us to remember everyone who has risked everything most precious for the sake of their country. Many on both sides of my family have served their country, community, and fellow citizens.

I actually agree with you that there are many heroes who served this country and that those who helped make it a better place and made sacrifices on a variety of fronts deserve recognition.

However, this particular thread was started for the purpose of honoring a specific segment of that population and there is no need to disrespect the OP or your fellow members by turning it into your own little soap-box rant. (You can do so in the "Political Forum" if you have a point you wish to make. Just do it in your own or a more appropriate thread.)

Thanks for your cooperation.

JB, I'm amazed at you assembling this collection of etched knives, giving tribute to those who served from the Civil War all the way to 9-11. A great Memorial to these. Thank you. DM
