Most of the guys here would do it upside-down or backwards (depending on if they're using a mirror or not) if they tried free handing. With a stencil you can make handy notes on it so that it comes out right. Also, with a stencil you can add nipple protectors on either side in case you slip. That's something you don't want to have to explain in the ER.
