TISHREI 2 /
SECOND DAY OF ROSH HASHANAH

FROM OUR PRAYERS

Making amends, prayers and acts of kindness revoke harsh judgements... Man is of earth and shall return to earth. His existence is so fleeting, yet he can rise to serve You, O G-D, the eternal Sovereign.
( Rosh Hashana Liturgy ).

FROM THE SAGES

Make someone into your teacher, aquire a friend, and judge all people favorably.
( Ethics of the Fathers 1:6 ).

COMMENTARY

Humility and greatness, far from being mutually exclusive, are actually complementary. The beauty of life is that a being of such humble origins as man can achieve the dazzling heights to which some human beings have risen and which are actually within every person's reach...

You were saying, Dave K?

Maybe tomorrow I can put up a quote from Black Elk ( Oglala Sioux 1863-1950). Hey, I may be Lutheran but you can't claim I don't try to broaden my understanding!ROFLMAO

Why do I love this forum? Need you ask?

I love the good feeling of everyone for everyone. I follow a usenet group that touches on topics that some folks have strong religious feelings about and we always have at least a couple of real obnoxious nuts around. It's really refreshing to come here and have the Lutherans posting Rosh Hashanah greetings or beautiful sentiments by Black Elk and to have the Christians, Jews, atheists, Buddhists and who knows what else all expressing mutual admiration and respect. I love you all!!

(And BTW, Happy New Year!
