I am not sure I understand your rant?
I mean people ask all kinds of prices for all kinds of things in general...
Nothing wrong with that.
You can ignore it, pay it, or whatever, not really sure it deserves much comment, especially in terms of 'what is it with some people and price mark-ups'.....
Anyway, it's cool that you look for deals and find them. Sometimes there is more to buying a knife then the price, and sometimes it's all about the price.
Congrats on that list, and the creative way you made that all work!
Um, congratulations I guess?
Some folks try to sell their folders for about what they paid for it originally. And, that's fine, but sometimes these guys paid a lot more for it from their local "dealer" than they could buy it for online. More experienced folks tend to either be better shoppers...or go broke.
My rant was basically my attempt at outlining my complete lack of understanding of some peoples pricing. I'm not even referring to limited edition knives like the 0454 which can receive huge markups in the secondary market for obvious reasons, but more the regular production knives such as the 0560 and 0562CF that I mentioned specifically. Sometimes I feel as though people are throwing these crazy numbers out there and I truly don't understand why they think they'll convince someone to buy their knives at that price. But thank you, I'm excited to get back home and see my new toys!
College you say? Take some business classes. That will learn ya. Don't forget, you can use your student loan money to knives, knives, and more knives!
Supply & demand divided by free enterprise equals opportunists.
Not everyone has the knowledge to know where to research knives, believe it or not, there are still folks that don't have a clue that Blade Forums exist. And they're lazy. So, an individual spot checks that same knife on several well known web sites and sees everyone is in line with pricing and buys it. The ones that keep prices jacked up are not looking for the thrifty buyer, they're looking for the lazy buyer that doesn't either know or is too lazy to dig deep. You'd be surprised how many are out there.

And how do you feel about those who BUY at these prices? Because that's why the people are selling them at the prices you see....
It's like the dog thing---because they can.![]()
Don't blame the OP. I don't think they teach free market economics in college anymore.
Do you think I should tell him that people buy his same car cheaper than he, find his same clothes cheaper than he, and many pay less for their groceries than he?
OP -- When someone is into a hobby, the more into it they are the better deals they're going to find; better than what you or I would anyway. They put the TIME into it...like when you spend all that time and find the 'best' deal. So you find the best knife deals, want a GummieBear now?
There are people out there who are better at buying specific things than you are and doing it every day. Cars, houses, stocks, jewelry, watches, shoes ....on and on and on.
Those of us who aren't hobbyists in a given thing are usually GOING to pay more than those who are "into something" and know where to dredge the deals to find that something. It's just life. And it is the "us's" who allow there to be "retail price."
This applies to every one of us.
By the attitude you yourself are conveying, you're getting bleached and ripped off in every walk of life except knives, dude.
Lol, my money that is spend on knives is earned by working at the glorious Home Depot, friend!
Except that's not the case at all in the cases that I'm talking about. There's no supply and demand issues here... The supply is abundant and the demand isn't touching the amount of knives out there. Like I said earlier, I'm not talking about the 0454 that would fall under the supply and demand deal, I'm talking about the like new 0560 going for $250 from a random Individual versus the brand new 0560 going for $200 from a reputable dealer.
I think we might be over thinking this thread. Let's all just brag about what great deals who have gotten....
But you are still saying that if someone sees you bought a knife for a deal that you shouldnt have to take a loss on the knife simply because you got a good deal but then you reverse it and feel that because you can find good deals on knives that others are pricing things too high. I think the real thing to understand is anyone can ask any price they want for anything. Why does the value of OTHER peoples knives decrease because YOU found a deal. I think it would foolish for people to search the absolute lowest price they can find something for sale and base their price on that. Just as you admit you wouldnt do either. Sounds like sour grapes to me.
You never add anything productive to any conversation that I'm involved in, lol. I'm going to start ignoring your posts from here on in.
