Y'all are going to have to stop sending me knives. I've been the recipient of much generosity around here. I'm starting to accumulate more gift knives that knives I've bought! I'm going to have to do another giveaway or something. More on that later.

Anyways, I made a comment about liking the old Roy Rogers knives in the "Pictorals" thread started by Jack Black. Obviously, I'm a fan of Westerns. Mr. Capo, felt it was necessary to send me a Roy Rogers knife.... actually, it's a Roy Rogers and Dale Evans "Happy Trails" knife! Cool little knife that reminds me of good ole Westerns that I'm fond of. I spent many a Weekend watching Westerns with my old man...... Anyway, here is the knife:

I've always struggled with what to do when someone gives you a knife out of the blue.... do you send one back? or does that affect the giving? Mostly, I've figured I should pass on the good fortune, so that's what I'll do here. What's an appropriate knife for a western themed giveaway?

How about an old Schrade USA 8OT for First Prize?

And a Ranger Large Stockman for Second Prize?

Rules:
1. Entrants must have 20 posts in the Traditionals Forum before this thread was created.
2. Answer the following:
2a. What is your Favorite Western Actor?
2b. What is your Favorite Western Movie?
2c. If you lived in your favorite Western Movie, what would your horse's name be?

For the purposes of the above questions, I'll accept anything about the Western United States set during the 19th century.... IE Lewis and Clark, Mountain Men, Cowboys, Russian Alaska..... etc. You may also include series vs. Movie or Book.

Those that enter will be picked by random number generator on or around October 20th.

Woodrow, this should be a fun one. Thanks for the generosity but not an entry. Just couldn't pass up on the entry info.

2a - Clint, Robert Duvall, Tommy Lee, Kevin Costner, The Duke.
2b - Lonesome Dove isn't a movie but if it was that would be it. So, Unforgiven, Tombstone, OpenRange, Man from Snowy River (I grew up watching that one over and over many times)
2c - Valor
2d - Can't say I'm well read enough to include a Western.

Lonesome Dove is a series, so it counts. You should read the book.

Not an entry - I've been the recipient of some great things here recently, but thanks for doing this. Great knives up for grabs.

Woodrow, I am happy you like it. I haven't watched many Westerns but I am reading the OxBow incident, It is really good so far.
I'm gonna sit this one out. Good luck to all that enter Woodrow's generous GAW.

2a. What is your Favorite Western Actor? I like John Wayne, I also like Clint Eastwood.
2b. What is your Favorite Western Movie? The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance
2c. If you lived in your favorite Western Movie, what would your horse's name be? I would call him "Tim"
2d. What is your favorite Western Book? Sacred Mesa ...i HAVE Lonesome Dove, but i need to get to actually reading it :p

Not an entry. I already have an 8OT, and it's all the stockman I can handle. Beautiful knives. I just wanted to play the game. :o

2a. What is your Favorite Western Actor? I'd have to go Clint and Costner
2b. What is your Favorite Western Movie? I'm into "dirtier" westerns like Open Range and True Grit (both versions), but I'd have to say Tombstone is tops on my list. Too many great quotes in that flick.
2c. If you lived in your favorite Western Movie, what would your horse's name be? With my big mouth, I'd have been shot long before I ever got to the point of owning a horse.
2d. What is your favorite Western Book? A little different, but I like Stephen King's Gunslinger series. It's not technically from Western America, but it's main character is pulled right out of that setting. He's a Clint character if I've ever seen one.

Awesome giveaway. I believe that the first place winner will be receiving one of the greatest production knives ever produced.

Not an entry, but . . . .

Favorite Actor: Ben Johnson
Favorite Movie: The Wild Bunch (honorable mention to Shane and One-Eyed Jacks, Ben Johnson in all 3)
Horse's Name: King
Favorite Book: Shane

Very nice Giveaway, not an entry but as others have said I want to play so here goes.....

What is your Favorite Western Actor? Clint Eastwood

2b. What is your Favorite Western Movie? The Outlaw Jose Wales

2c. If you lived in your favorite Western Movie, what would your horse's name be? Red

2d. What is your favorite Western Book? Blood Meridian by Carmac Macarhty that book really got under my skin.....

Fist off, let me say thank you for the giveaway!

2a. What is your Favorite Western Actor?- Clint Eastwood. Because he was both a good guy and bad guy at the same time.

2b. What is your Favorite Western Movie? Probably Tombstone, 1993. Val Kilmer was such a great Doc Holiday! (But I've always loved Pale Rider, the outlaw Jose Wales, and many others).

2c. If you lived in your favorite Western Movie, what would your horse's name be? Id have a black horse, and his name would be Crow.

2d. What is your favorite Western Book? Gonna sound cheesy, but probably Dances With Wolves. Ive read a few of my dad's Louie Lamor books, and was not a huge fan. (I was going to say Steven King's Gunslinger, but was not sure that would qualify).

Ok I'm going to preface this with my answers will be possibly not acceptable for the western catagory.

1. Favorite western actor. Bruce Campbell

2. Favorite movie. Actually a series. Brisco County Jr. Brings in some sci fi that I makes it oh so wonderful.

3. Horses name. Freud. I feel like I would talk to my horse a lot. Seems fitting.

4. I haven't read to much western stuff, which should change. But Gunslinger series was good. Haven't finished all of the books. I should finish that! Time is not something I have a lot of though.

Great idea Woodrow!

Not sure if I qualify for the giveaway, but wanted to answer the questions.

2a. Clint Eastwood, but Jimmy Stewart gets an honorable mention.
2b. Does "Jeremiah Johnson" count? One of my favorites since I was a little kid. Too many others to start listing them.
2c. I'd ride an old paint and I'd call him Woody.
2d. "The Brave Cowboy" by Edward Abbey, I also loved "True Grit" but read it after my more impressionable years had passed.

Alright I'm in, this one's just too good to pass up on, great gaw Woodrow!

Favorite western actor would have to be: John Wayne
Favorite western movie: Lonesome Dove hands down, no question, there's just something about it I can't get enough of, even after countless times watching it from "get from here you pigs"...to..."yeah, hell of a vision"
If I lived in my favorite western movie, my horse would be named: Dollar
And last but not least, at the risk of being repetitive: Lonesome Dove.

Thanks again Woodrow for the wonderful generosity, this place never ceases to amaze me

Thanks Woodrow, I'm a massive lover of all things western, I'm even a western shooting competitor.

My favourite western actors would be a toss up between Charleton Heston, Clint Eastwood and Kevin Costner

If I lived in my view of the west I'd call my horse Thunder

My favourite Western book would be anything written by Ralph Cotton.

Thanks again for the chance my friend.
