I waited for the 1x30 belt sander to go on sale as it does now and then. The very day it went on sale $29.95 I bought one. I even posted on a couple of forums that it was on sale as I know others wanted one.

That was Feb 7th

The next day they send out a out of stock notice. Now why they advertize a sale on an out of stock item and not say it is out of stock until you buy it to me is deceptive and poor customer treatment. Do you agree?

It still has not come in and no communication from them even to respond to my email asking status.

I have bought from them before but this is not the only problem I have had or my son has had with them.

For what its worth this was the last time I buy from them.

I think the HF stores get stock first. I am just lucky to live near a HF store. I always call to see if an item is in stock before driving there and usually there are only one or two when it comes to power tools.

Harbor freight stuff is crap.Never again
Go to the Home Depot and catch their stuff on sale. You are much better off.
Bought a couple of finish nailers from them in California.did not last till the job was finished.Bad ju ju never againTried to fix one of them with the extra parts provided andit broke it too.Bad ju ju
Bought a porter cable from the Depot on sale, still using it.

HF is a good place to buy stuff that you never plan on seeing again. My family is in a construction/maintenance business. We have a couple of maintenance guys that go out to do some of our weekly jobs. The work is light duty, so it does not require the "good stuff" to be done right. Likewise, the help is generally temporary and unreliable. We equip them with like tools as they generally steal them when they decide not to show up for work again.
Luckily, I too live near the HF store. I will say one thing, the 200 dollar two ton pallet jack I bought was worth every penny!

Best of luck to you.

I ordered the one you are talking about on 2/17.
They sent me part of the order, but the sander is backordered.
I did notice today that they dinged my credit card for the rest of the order. Should be shipping?

Someone posted the link for these over in the Busse forum. I am sure they are getting hogged up like everything else.....:D

If you buy nailers at Home Depot before taking a new one off the shelf ask if they have any recons. I picked up all mine this way for half the cost. Alot of people buy these and don't know that they require basic maint. Then return them. Home depot actually takes them back unlike most places. they send them out to be cleaned and/or repaired by factory authorised centers and then sell them as recons. They still have full warientees from the origional manufacturer on them.

I ordered same sander on 2/15, sent part of order, said sander was backordered ,but CC was charged.
Checked CC today ,they had charged me twice on 3/1 for sander
thats three charges for one sander I have yet to receive !!

The only thing I ever bought from HF was a remanufactured DeWalt 18Volt cordless drill. Great drill, excellent price. It's never failed in 8 years.

I live near HF and my 1x30 is going strong for the last 5 years the 1x42 is a winner too.
Peace

Most of the people I know refer to them a "Harbor Fright." Mostly because you never know whats going to happen with a tool/machine you purchase...but its usually scary.

HF is a store that sells almost all Chinese goods. If you want the good stuff, you have to pay for it. I know this is about the online store but if their tools are Chinese knock offs, why would their customer service or their website be top notch?

One thing I like about HF (the store) is that when things are on sale, they are good deals. I only buy stuff that I will use once in a while and don't want to spend 2-3 times the price for a tool that will sit in my garage once I have used it.

I got a vice from there when on sale for about $25. It is a good vice for what I use it for and it is pretty hard to screw up a vice! I would buy a vice or anvil from them but not a power tool. I did buy a palm sander for $9.95 but I wish I just spent the $18 for a name brand one. It does the job sort of but I would be better off with a better one. Anything that you intend to use for a long time is worth the extra cash.

Another thing I got there was a set of impact sockets. I think they were liek $20 for a set of 12-15 IIRC. Sears wants at least $20 for each socket. That is a big difference. I wear my safety glasses in case they explode but they have held up very well. For the price difference, it was a good deal.

Our local HF store is great for disposable stuff and non-electrical items like blasting cabinet, shop press, etc. Also work gloves, face masks, filters, etc.

Porter Cable, DeWalt, Milwaukee are all great. Home Depot & Lowe's both have refurbs if you ask for them.

I live right down the street from the Harbor Freight in Austin TX, I bought a 1x30 vertical sander, I couldn't afford anything else. I made my first knife frome start to finish with that thing. The guide broke and some stuff is loose on it, but the belt spins...you really just have to avoid their pink and orange power tools. I buy all my impact sockets there, and they are still going strong.
