Hello all.
So let me start buy saying I am new here, I am also new to knife making. I built myself a home made forge a few moths ago and have made 4 knifes, two of witch were otter disasters, one turned out pretty nice and the 4th I am currently working on. The whole knife making things is quite new to me but I really in joy it as a past time hobby.
So let's get to why I am here.
I have been purchasing steel plate to create my blades from. I buy a high carbon 01 steel, this particular pice I'm working on is 2" x 1/4" thick. I softened the steel to be more manageable to work with, everything has been great so far. I just started doing some hand filling on the blade and came accross a pice that is really hard. I find this strange and am not sure if it is normal or is the steel not as good a quality as it should be. The spot in question is about the size or a grain of salt but seems to realy be doing a number on my file. So I guess what I'm asking is, is this normal or should I be going back to the steel place and submitting a complaint. Thank you anyone who takes the time out to help me on this. I appreciate any advise.
